Story written by Lovexair Foundation
Through the Check@ir tool and the ‘Clean Air, Healthy Lives‘ campaign, the Lovexair Foundation is empowering people across the globe to assess their lung health and raise awareness about the extent of air pollution’s impact by building the first Global Respiratory Health Map.
A Citizen-Driven Tool for a Global Health Challenge
At the Second WHO Global Conference on Air Pollution and Health in Cartagena, the Lovexair Foundation introduced its campaign ‘Clean Air, Healthy Lives‘, a bold initiative that combines community action, citizen science and digital health to stand up for the right to breathe clean air.
At the heart of the campaign is Check@ir, an innovative, easy-to-use online questionnaire that enables people—whether diagnosed with a respiratory condition or not—to evaluate their lung health in just three minutes. The tool is currently available in English, Spanish, and Brazilian-Portuguese, and helps individuals reflect on environmental exposures, other risk factors and chronic conditions like Asthma or COPD.
From Individual awareness to collective insight
Each person’s response to Check@ir contributes to building the world’s first Global Respiratory Health Map, an open initiative, already supported by more than 40 civic, health and institutional organizations.
Citizens voluntarily share their insights and receive a personal report, to follow-up with their medical professionals. This collaboration enables Lovexair to collect real-world data across regions, helping us identify where we need to focus our efforts in preventive care. It highlights key health risks and supports the development of appropriate healthcare responses that truly address the challenges faced by people—adults, children, and families alike.
“With Check@ir, we are turning data into action—bridging science, care, and citizen participation,” said Shane Fitch, CEO of Lovexair. “We hope this tool empowers individuals and helps shape future public policy by giving community leaders the information they need to take better decisions, improve care, and help people find solutions to adapt their lifestyles for better health—no matter how challenging that may seem.”
Digital care with a low carbon footprint
All data is processed ethically and in compliance with EU data protection regulations (GDPR), forming part of Lovexair’s HappyAir digital health ecosystem. This virtual network enables education, remote care, and personalized follow-up while minimizing logistical costs—especially beneficial for low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
HappyAir is a learning community that includes patients, families, professionals, and researchers. It connects people with resources to promote self-care, early detection, and healthier lifestyles—especially in underserved areas.
Looking ahead: a Global Call to Action for you
The first results of the Global Respiratory Health Map will be presented on World Lung Day in September 2025. Until then, Lovexair invites governments, healthcare institutions and civic organizations to share the Check@ir tool, organize local screenings, and collaborate in building a shared vision for cleaner air and healthier lungs.
Growing a worldwide network of committed leaders working towards protecting peoples’ health is essential, in the face of environmental exposures and poor air quality. Demonstrating that peoples’ health matters and is a shared concern, is our way forward.
The Check@ir initiative is a clear example of how digital tools can bring visibility to silent health threats—connecting global challenges with individual stories and community-driven solutions.
Use Checkair and join Lovexair in the “Clean Air, Healthy Lives” campaign to take care of the respiratory health of your community. Change starts with you!
